New principal hired for GVC

Garden Valley Collegiate will be kicking off the 2010/11 school year with a new principal.

Garden Valley School Division board chair Hilda Froese recently announced that current GVC vice-principal Scott Jantzen will replace retiring principal Dan Giesbrecht this fall.

Jantzen has a Masters of Education from the University of Calgary, with an emphasis in educational leadership, Froese said.

He has worked as a vice principal at GVC throughout the 2009/10 school year.

Prior to that, Jantzen had vice principal stints at two schools in Alberta, and worked as a high school teacher for 15 years at schools in Saskatchewan and Alberta.

In recent years, Jantzen was a co-author of a multimedia/textbook resource published by McGraw-Hill Ryerson for the Science 14 program.

He was also a recipient of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta's "Who Makes School Cool" award, in addition to being nominated for the Pan Canadian Students' Choice Award.
