Manitoba Finance Minister Stan Struthers
Extended shopping hours and slashing of the number of regional health authorities are two of the items to be included in today's provincial budget.
Finance Minister Stan Struthers tipped his hand shortly before the official budget announcement set for this afternoon, offering two tidbits that are sure to become some of the most talked-about policy changes to come out of the budget.
Sunday shopping hours will be extended. Struthers said he plans to consult with businesses to see how much the current Sunday shopping rules will be relaxed, and said it's likely to happen gradually. No specific hours have been set.
The province also plans to reduce the number of regional health authorities from 11 to five.
Health Minister Theresa Oswald said the plan could save the province up to $10 million as executive positions are eliminated.
Struthers said the budget is poised to bring the province back in the black in two years.
