Orioles lose opener; Bisons win 0
There were mixed results for the two Pembina Valley teams on the opening night of the 2012 Manitoba Junior Baseball League playoffs.
The third place Pembina Valley Orioles were edged 4-3 in Morden Tuesday by the sixth place St. James As in game one of their best of five series, while the fourth place Altona Bisons blanked the fifth place Elmwood Giants 4-0.
St. James scored three runs with two out in the top of the sixth inning for the win. Dustin Donald had two home runs for the Orioles, who also got another long shot from Brent Dunn.
Colin Waldner pitched a full game for the Bisons, allowing four hits and striking out nine while also getting three hits and three RBIs.
Both series head to Winnipeg for their second games Thursday then return to Morden and Altona for their third games Monday. If the series are extended, the fourth games will then go Tuesday.
