The legacy of Michael Mutcheson continues to make a difference in Morden.
And the Michael Mutcheson Foundation recently reached a milestone in hitting the half-million dollar mark in donations and scholarships.
With the awarding of two $3,000 scholarships to Amy Agnew and Reid Burak, the Michael Mutcheson Foundation surpassed the $500,000 mark in scholarships and children's charity donations.
Over $150,000 has been in the form of scholarships with $400,000 used to target children's charities, which were a favourite with Michael. This includes a $50,000 donation to the pediatric ward at Boundary Trails Health Centre.
Charities from across the country have received donations: Milton District Hospital, Variety Village, Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Langley Child Development Centre, Montreal Children's Hospital, Boundary Trails pediatric ward, Canadian Paralympics' Committee, Regent Park School of Music and Kids' Sport Alberta.
With this year's selection of Camp Brigadoon for sick children in the Maritimes, it has developed into a full-fledged national charity with children's organizations from British Columbia to Nova Scotia having benefitted from the Michael Mutcheson Memorial Trust, stated a news release from the Mutcheson family.
"Michael Mutcheson lived life to the fullest. He loved athletic pursuits of the many sports that he played. Michael knew what it was to struggle to excel. He was resourceful and worked hard for all his accomplishments.
"Throughout life, Michael maintained a wonderful sense of humour, energy and enthusiasm for all he undertook. Michael also was generous to those who were struggling to excel.
"This scholarship fund has been established to honour the memory of Michael. To honour his memory, all business, both fundraising and granting, is done in the spirit that was Michael.
