The Morden Festival of the Arts will welcome band sessions back to the festival.
The 43rd season of the festival will feature band sessions Tuesday, February 13t, in the morning only, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Westside Community Church.
The adjudicator is Paul Moen, who will workshop with each band after they’ve performed.
Paul Moen grew up in Aberdeen, South Dakota and received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Northern State University in Aberdeen. His Master of Music degree is from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio.
Paul has been privileged to teach in the public school system in South Dakota, Minnesota and Manitoba for over 35 years. He was the band director at Garden Valley Collegiate in Winkler for 20 years before retiring. His bands did significant touring in Manitoba and beyond, as well as numerous concerts in Minneapolis and the surrounding area.
He has had the opportunity to perform in numerous settings, both as a member of a group and as a clarinet soloist. He has performed in Poland, with the Cincinnati Community Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and the Winnipeg Wind Ensemble and on many occasions with community, church and university groups.
He has adjudicated numerous festivals in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. As well, Paul has had the opportunity to guest conduct in band camps and honor band settings.
Paul is married to Rita and they have two children, Bryton and Makyla. Paul and Rita live in Winnipeg.
Paul’s love of music is something he enjoys sharing with musicians of all ages. He finds music to be a powerful tool to reach out to people and to enable them to express themselves in a unique way. He is greatly looking forward to returning to Morden and working with the musicians at the festival.
Participating bands include:
• Winkler Elementary School Grade 8 band, under the direction of Lincoln Wiebe
• MCI Junior Band, under the direction of Justin Tan
• MCI Intermediate Band, under the direction of Justin Tan
• MCI Senior Band, under the direction of Justin Tan
Everyone is invited to come out and listen to these great bands as they participate in the Morden Festival.
