Dorothy in Wonderland

MORDEN -

The worlds of Oz and Wonderland will collide at Morden Collegiate.
Dorothy In Wonderland will be presented by the Morden Collegiate Theatre Troupe May 10, 11 and 12. In this fantastically fun romp, cleverly and carefully adapted from the works of L. Frank Baum and Lewis Carroll, Dorothy Gale (Breanna Giesbrecht) has made her way to the end of the Yellow Brick Road, and the wonderful Wizard of Oz (Enrico Barroso) is just about to help her get back home to Kansas.  But before she can hop into the wizard’s balloon, another whirlwind appears over the Emerald City, sweeping Dorothy, Toto (Claudia Diaz), Scarecrow (Kamryn Sawatzky), Tin Man (Matthew Gray) and Lion (Colton Giesbrecht) away to Wonderland.  Equipped with their new assets — brains, heart and courage — Dorothy’s friends try to help her find her way home, meeting many other interesting characters along the way, including Alice (Lauren Craig), the White Rabbit, Mad Hatter (Jonah Penner), March Hare (Brittany Chavarria), the Cheshire Cat (Aubreyanna Widmer), and many more.  They also must face a dangerous new foe — the Queen of Hearts (Arianne Mariano)!  Dorothy and Alice team up to defeat the queen at croquet, but will that be enough to return Wonderland to normal?  And how will they ever get back home to Kansas and to London?
Performances take place at 7 p.m. on May 10 and 11, and at 1 p.m. on May 12 in the MCI Theatre. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students and are available in advance at the MCI office or at the door until they sell out. Organizers warn there is limited seating.
“This year’s cast is amazing and they bring each character alive in all their wonderfulness,” organizers said. “The director is Chicago Dyck and with the help of the Grade 9 Technical Theatre class, Tania Sigurdson has created that Wonderland feeling.  It is a child friendly performance sure to bring out smiles and laughter.”
