On November 18, 2015, the boys Ventures club from the Altona Bergthaler Mennonite Church gathered and packed 50 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. The Shoeboxes have been an annual event for the Ventures club each year, and this year they broke their record with 50 boxes packed. The boys begin preparations with a coin drive a couple weeks before packing the shoeboxes. This year they canvased parts of Altona and had collection boxes at the Bergthaler Church which raised over $1600 for OCC. The money was then used to purchase items for the shoeboxes from local businesses to be packed by the boys. On top of the 50 shoeboxes, the Ventures club also sent along a cash donation with some of the remaining money. The boys look forward to this event every year, and it only takes a few houses into the coin drive for the boys to overcome their shyness and get into the event. The Altona Boys Venture club really needs to thank the people in Altona, and the Altona Bergthaler Church for their support with this event. Start saving up your coins because they will be back next year to collect.
