University Volleyball Game to be held in Winkler

Hi,

could you please run a story on this upcoming exciting event in our community?

The Brandon University Bobcats women's volleyball team will be playing a game against the University of Winnipeg Wesmen on Tuesday, October 8th at 6:30 pm, at Northlands Parkway Collegiate.

This game has been set up as a way to honour Brandon University player Lexi Loewen. Lexi is a Winklerite who graduated from Garden Valley Collegiate in 2009. She played two years at Briarcrest in the Alberta College Athletic Association, where she was a star and led the league in blocking. After her two years there, she made the jump to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) with the Brandon Bobcats. She earned a role as a starter last season and will once again be a starter and feature player for the team this year.

Brandon coach Lee Carter was instrumental in setting up this game. He told me he wants to honour Lexi but is also excited because Winkler has a strong volleyball tradition and he feels Winkler volleyball fans will really appreciate the opportunity to watch this game.

CIS volleyball is the highest level of volleyball played in Canada, and CIS volleyball is the primary feeder system of our national team programs. It is extremely high-level volleyball and will be very fun to watch. Admission is free, so please come out and cheer on our home-town hero, Lexi Loewen, and enjoy a fantastic night of entertaining volleyball.

Thanks! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Al Yeo
Northlands Parkway Collegiate
